Visit the Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon National Park
The Grand Canyon needs no introduction. It is a breathtaking example of the power of mother nature and is one of the most awe inspiring places on the planet and easily accessible on a trip from Gallup, NM.
Visiting the Grand Canyon
The two most visited places on the Grand Canyon are the North Rim and the South Rim.
To get to the South Rim, you should travel West on I-40 from the El Rancho Hotel toward Flagstaff. We recommend eating in Flagstaff before continuing to the Grand Canyon. Then continue traveling West on I-40 to Williams. At Williams, you will go North on AZ-64. This road will take you to the South Rim. If you travel this route, you may also be interested in visiting the Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater, Wupatki National Monument and Sedona.
To get to the North Rim, we recommend traveling from Gallup on US-491 North to NM-264 West. You will take NM-264 through Navajo Country to US-160. From US-160, you will travel to US 89 N. After turning left onto US 89 you will come to AZ-67S which you will take for approximately 1 hour before arriving at the North Rim. It takes approximately 6.5 hours to travel from Gallup to the North Rim so we highly recommend planning a multi-day trip to see the North Rim with stops at Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Rainbow Bridge, Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon. This route takes longer but is a much more rewarding trip.
